HOMENEWSPress Release Subject COWON unveils Premium PMP “COWON P5” Date 2008.07.23 [Jul 23, 2008, Seoul] Cowon System (President Park, Nam-gyu, www.cowon.com) announced that it will release a new premium class Bluetooth enabled PMP, the ‘COWON P5’. By employing the Alchemy Au1250 700MHz chip from RMI, the new COWON P5 features faster and more powerful multimedia processing and multi-tasking. It boasts a 5 inch super high-resolution wide TFT LCD with 16.7 million colors and a screen resolution of 800x480, the largest among its peers. With its stylish yet delicate hair lined metal body and user friendly touch screen LCD, it is easy to carry around thanks to its slim and compact size. ‘COWON P5’ offers ground wave DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), FM radio and voice recording, and enables wireless multimedia playback of various kinds with Bluetooth 2.0. Its long battery-life makes it the longest running time among its peers with 9 hours for video clips and 14 hours for music. The sleep mode minimizes power loss between the on and off periods, and enables immediate usage without additional boot time up to a maximum of 300 hours. Other important features include AVDic that aids language study while watching movies. The language study is supported by other functions such as interval repeat, playback speed control, and bookmarks. Its electronic dictionary data bases are e4u of YBM Sisa (both English to Korean and Korean to English), Chambers 21st Century Dictionary, and the Korean Genuine Words Dictionary, and it also has an ‘Alpha Brain’ function. Educational and music contents are downloadable for users to view famous Korean and overseas education/music websites from the device. Also available are document processing features for Excel, PowerPoint, and Word documents through WinCE based OfficeGURU, picture viewing, eBook viewing, a notepad, and calculator. Users can easily sense the menu shifting as it gently vibrates, and create their own, unique PMP wall paper with UCI, through which users can make their own GUI. Park, Nam-gyu, the president of Cowon, commented that this is a one-step-progressed premium PMP that optimizes form and function to meet the users’ needs, and expects it to lead the market as an ambitious masterpiece in the tradition of Cowon’s premium PMP series. ‘COWON P5’ is being released in black, platinum and red, starting with an educational version that includes a study package on July 29, with its standard and navigation versions due to hit the streets by mid August.
