Subject COWON Strengthens Japanese Market Targeting with 3D PMP Date 2011.05.26
The number one PMP company in Korea, COWON, is making its move to advance to the Japanese market by releasing the ‘3D PMP’.

COWON Systems (CEO Nam-kyu Park, www.cowon.com) revealed that from June 10, it would start sales of the first 3D PMP that does not require glasses, the ‘COWON 3D’, in the biggest stores in Japan, including Yodobashi Camera, Bic Camera and Sofmap.

‘COWON 3D’ is the world’s first no-glasses 3D PMP that COWON released in the Korean market in December, last year.

It is a premium PMP with the most sophisticated performance, including a 4.8 inch 3D display that can be enjoyed without separate 3D glasses, plays full HD images, offers wireless internet through Wi-Fi, and has HDMI digital output.

The strategy of COWON is to release the 3D PMP at the right time in a situation that 3D contents are gradually increasing to preoccupy the market at an early stage and create a basis for future related market expansion, too.

The company is especially expected to solidify its position as number one in the market based on its superior technology that led to the release of the first 3D PMP in Japan.

COWON established a local branch and expanded to the Japanese market in 2005, and has established a position as a strong player in the MP3 market based on good reviews of its unique strength of sound quality, and it has maintained an unchanging number one position with a market share of over 50 percent for PMPs.

In February, the MP3 player ‘COWON J3’ and PMP ‘COWON V5’ were selected as the top products at the “2010 Product Awards” hosted by the biggest online price comparison and community website in Japan, Kakaku.com (www.kakaku.com), making it the company’s second consecutive year receiving the honors. The positive reviews in the Japanese market are continuing with other recognition such as being awarded number one in the PMP field for the ‘2010 Global Customer Satisfaction Index’ and ‘2011 Global & Great Brand Competency Index (GBCI)’ hosted by Japan Management Association Consultants, two years in a row.

These accomplishments are highly evaluated as successful cases where a medium-sized Korean company reached success with quality in the Japanese market that is considered an impregnable fortress even to leading large companies.

CEO Nam-kyu Park of COWON said, “We look forward to further strengthening the local technology and competitiveness of COWON through the release of the 3D PMP in Japan”, and added, “We will continue to vigorously target the Japanese market through the release of new products and expansion of distribution channels.”
