COWON Systems (CEO Nam-Kyu Park, www.cowon.com) revealed that it would be releasing a 2-channel HD Black Box for automobiles called the ‘Auto Capsule AD1 (hereinafter ‘AD1’)’ on the coming 24th. ‘AD1’ is the successor of ‘Auto Capsule AC1.’ It utilizes the excellent strengths of the existing model such as HD and 150° diagonal angle recording, and has additional features such as 2 channels, various recording modes and safety specifications. Front and rear shooting is possible simultaneously when connected to the rear-view camera, and it includes a high quality microphone for voice recording for collecting more accurate information in case of an accident. In addition to the basic recording modes – constant/manual recording, shock detection recording, motion detection recording (parking recording) – it also has a ‘motorcycle recording mode’ for motorcyclists, allowing the user to select from diverse recording modes according to their environment. Better safety specifications are another characteristic of AD1. The terminal cover protects the microSD card and an internal emergency battery safely records even in unexpected situations such as an accident or loss of power. Product protection in high temperatures is also said to have been considered because of the rising temperature in automobiles in the summer season. Furthermore, the angles of the front and rear cameras can all be adjusted, and there is a video output terminal to immediately check recorded material using an external device. The capsule shape has been redone, too. The streamlined shape in harmony with automobile interior and simple black color remains the same, but a pop of orange has been added and a flickering LED light that shows the operation status emphasizes a trendy touch. CEO Nam-Kyu Park of COWON said, “Starting with the release of ‘AD1,’ we will establish a variety of product line-ups in the second half of this year and accelerate our targeting of the Black Box market,” and revealed, “We will apply our expert technology and know-how verified through our multi-media device businesses such as PMPs to the video recording Black Box, and lead new trends in the Black Box market based on our unique strengths, including differentiated designs and a nationwide after-service network.” The retail prices of the ‘AD1’ will be 269,000 Won (8G), 299,000 Won (16G) and 339,000 Won (32G) depending on the capacity. Meanwhile, to celebrate the launch of the product, COWON plans to hold an event for one month, giving away abundant prizes, including Black Boxes, MP3s and earphones, to customers who participate in the online survey on the COWON website (www.cowon.com).
