Subject COWON Starts Video Contents Service Date 2006.08.16
Seoul, digital device & content service provider COWON SYSTEMS (CEO Namgyu Park, www.cowon.com) announced the beginning of their full-fledged video content service through their company website.

For these services, COWON entered into partnerships with well-known language education institutes including YBM Shisa Dot Com, N Pagoda Dot Com, Darakwon, Efficient Education, EBY School, Jung Chul Language Center, JRC Jongro Chinese Language Center, UB1, Daily English, and Ahn Byunggyu Language Center, and together have built the nation's largest language learning content mall.

Users of this service can view diverse quality language classes without the hassle of logging on to individual sites. Also, classes can be viewed anytime and anywhere by downloading onto a PC or PMP with high-resolution clear video content that is much better than what existing streaming services provide.

In addition to language study, COWON is preparing services for various areas of study such as license tests and university entrance exams. In the future, they will promote a broader spectrum of content services from entertainment such as movies, TV, comic books, and e-book to health topics like yoga, dieting, and dance.

COWON plans to allow on-demand access to video content services anytime and anywhere through portable multimedia devices that they are preparing for the mobile ultra-speed wireless Internet market like HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) and WiBro (Wireless Broadband). Further, they plan to develop a total solution to encompass software, hardware, and optimized content for a ubiquitous environment.

COWON's CEO Namgyu Park said,'Our video portal service will create new synergy by fusing together the contents business formerly classified as a separate business line and the hardware device business,' and continued, 'Video content services will offer opportunities to encourage the use of portable digital devices and build a new business model.'

Meanwhile, COWON has already signed an agreement with Terten, a DRM solution provider, last May to manage digital copyrights for video contents.
